my mother loved to eat natto... unfortunately, as a california teen i was mortified by its smell... an intense odor of fermentation seemingly made more potent by the sticky, web-like film encasing the beans.
i remember the dread i felt having friends over knowing our refrigerator wasn't filled with guacamole, salsa and american cheese, but instead exotic and often smelly japanese delicacies and leftovers.
thank you for writing this britt... as now that i'm [much] older, it's time for me to give the nutritious natto another try!
