i'm [begrudgingly] figuring out this whole agingthang doesn't always look or feel pretty.

i can recall wanting to punch dough-headed men in the neck when they'd admonish me by saying You'd look so much prettier if you'd smile... totally careless and clueless as to why my face reflected storm clouds instead of rainbows.

i put cheer up AND stiff upper lip in that same category.

you're too upbeat and tough by nature to allow yourself to sink into the murkiest of depths, so perhaps allowing a little bad weather to pass while your body heals may be just what this quacking doc is ordering.
